Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski reaffirmed his willingness to further strengthen cooperation between Peru and Chile shortly after arrival in Santiago on Monday afternoon.
The Peruvian leader stepped off the presidential airplane at 17:40 (local time), and was welcomed by Chilean Foreign Affairs Heraldo Muñoz.
“We are going to deepen cooperation in this part of the world,” he told the local and international press.
He said there is good news for Peru and Chile despite the international economic environment as metal prices have significantly recovered.
The establishment of binational cabinet meetings between Peru and Chile will be discussed, although there are many ways to forge closer cooperation, he explained.
“For instance, there is the electrical interconnection, the railway linking Tacna and Arica, visas for those pursing jobs here [in Chile], as well as the economic and trade cooperation,” he stated.
At another time, Kuczynski affirmed international trade is a relevant topic for both countries, due to future “protectionist winds.”
The Peruvian President will attend a colloquium-dinner organized by Chilean Council on Foreign Relations at 20:30 hours.
