SANTIAGO, Chile – Two women are dead after being hit by a drunk driver in LasCondes around 8:00 p.m.Sunday.
According to witnesses, a silver Subaru Legacy drove into a bus stop were several pedestrians were waiting.
The victims were identified as Norma Elisa Alforte, 47, who is from Pangasinan Philippines and Maria Jose Zarzar, 29, who is of Chilean nationality.
When medical officials arrived on the scene Zarzar was pronounced dead. Alforte was rushed to the hospital but later died due to a brain hemorrhage.
The suspect who was identified as 49-year-old Yuri Restovic fled the scene and change vehicles. Around 10:00 p.m., Restovic went to a local LasCondes police department to file a complaint for the alleged theft of his vehicle. However, Restovic was recognized by a witness and was arrested. He later confessed to driving under the influence of alcohol.
Officials are currently investigating the situation by watching security cameras and taking witness testimonies. Restovic is currently being detained and will face charges.
