SANTIAGO – Chile exceeded 105 thousand cases of COVID-19 and registered a new peak of deaths and daily infections on Monday.
According to the Ministry of Health, 5,471 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours, the highest daily number, reaching a total of 105,159 cases.
Of these 5,082 were reported with symptoms and 389 asymptomatic, as indicated by Minister Jaime Mañalich.
The authority also maintained that 59 people died in the last 24 hours, this being a new peak of daily deaths, giving a total of 1,113 deaths from the disease.
There are 1,446 people hospitalized in the South American country, 1,209 on mechanical ventilation.
Regarding the sanitary residences, Mañalich highlighted that currently there are 90 available, in which there are 4,216 rooms to be used.

Mañalich said that the government was carrying out 22,000 exams a day. “Chile is one of the countries that tests the most in the world and we exceed 500,000,” he added.
The minister also took advantage of the situation to request Chileans to respect the quarantine measures.
Santiago and 38 nearby towns remain under quarantine until June 5 due to an increase in cases in recent weeks.
The quarantine is affecting around seven million people, and protests over “insufficient” government aid have arisen in poor sectors of the metropolitan region.
