931 detained in Chile for not respecting COVID-19 curfew

SANTIAGO – Carabineros de Chile reported Sunday that 931 people were detained nationwide for not respecting the curfew.

The police report lists 823 offenders in regions and 108 in the Metropolitan area. Likewise, 3,426 safe-conducts were delivered in person, 1,173 in the Metropolitan Region and 2,253 in the rest of the country.

Meanwhile, police detained 19 people – all of legal age – at a clandestine party held during the curfew in the Santiago commune.

All of them, including the organizer and the DJ, face detention for violating article 318 of the Penal Code.

Police said it would be a birthday celebration on Compañía Street.

According to the police report, among the detainees are three repeat offenders for putting public health at risk.

A few days ago, a Peruvian citizen had his permanent stay revoked for organizing a clandestine party in Chile.

So far, Chile has a total of 94,858 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), with 997 deaths. At least 40,431 people have also recovered from the disease.
